From the CEO’s Desk
Every spring and fall, I look forward to attending our Hot Topics Workshops so that I can interact with our subscribers. Here at the Texas Hospital Insurance Exchange, we pride ourselves on being your insurance partner, not just your insurance provider. That’s the primary theme highlighted in THIE’s 2015 annual report, which was just mailed to subscribers. From the continuation of the popular subscriber surplus refund program to a packed house at the Hot Topics Workshops, last year was a standout year. Read all about it in the digital edition.
I look forward to catching up with you at an upcoming event. Keep an eye out for us at the Texas Organization of Rural & Community Hospitals Annual Conference and Tradeshow April 26-28 and the Healthcare Governance Conference July 28-30, and of course the next Hot Topics Workshop in October in Fredericksburg. We also have added a third Hot Topics Workshop to the calendar, Nov. 2-3 in Corpus Christi. I hope to see you there!

Thirty-three Hospitals Attend March Hot Topics
THIE held its latest Hot Topics Workshop March 2-3 at the Overton Hotel & Conference Center in Lubbock. Eighty-five attendees representing 33 hospitals participated in the full-day event. From cyber liability risk in health care to meaningful use and cost report reimbursement updates, the spring Hot Topics Workshop featured some of the most pressing issues facing Texas hospitals. Additionally, attendees enjoyed a friendly game of golf at The Rawls Course at Texas Tech. Save the dates of the next Hot Topics Workshop coming up Oct. 12-13, which returns to the Hangar Hotel in Fredericksburg.
We’ve all seen the scary headlines. A clinician’s laptop containing protected health information is lost or stolen. Or disgruntled employee hacks into the hospital’s network and exposes HIPAA-protected data. Not only are these incidents embarrassing and harmful to a hospital’s reputation, they also result in costly fines and potential privacy-related claims.
The Texas Hospital Insurance Exchange has partnered with NAS Insurance to provide Texas hospitals with cyber liability insurance products designed for the unique privacy-related exposures they face. Through THIE and NAS, your hospital can be protected from network hacking, cyber extortion and other privacy breaches with affordable policies that cover property damage, regulatory defense of claims, lost profits due to negative publicity and more.
THIE subscribers who purchase professional liability services, can log into THIE’s new cyber liability site to learn more about this important coverage.
Mark Your Calendar for the Fall Hot Topics Workshops
Mark your calendars now for the fall Hot Topics Workshops, coming up Oct. 12-13 in Fredericksburg and Nov. 2-3 in Corpus Christi. As always, the workshops are offered at no cost to THIE subscribers and will feature a full day of educational sessions on the hottest issues in health care as well as plenty of networking time with peers, including a golf tournament. Keep an eye on the THIE website for more information in the coming months.
