From the CEO’s Desk

As we wrap up yet another successful year here at the Texas Hospital Insurance Exchange, I am humbled by your continued support. Not only do you continue to turn to THIE for your insurance needs, but also, this year you attended the Hot Topics workshops in record numbers. Total 2015 attendance was up 67 percent for our two workshops, which are offered at no charge to THIE subscribers, in large part due to our generous sponsors. Thank you for helping make these events a success. It’s always fun to spend time with our customers and to be able to share information that helps you deliver health care in the safest, most cost-effective way possible.

The THIE offices will be closed for the holidays from Dec. 24 through Jan. 3, reopening Jan. 4. I wish you and yours a happy holiday season and look forward to working with you in 2016.

Subscriber Spotlight: Cornerstone Regional Hospital, Edinburg

Cornerstone Regional Hospital, a 14-bed facility in Edinburg, made headlines this fall by achieving its 500th robotic-assisted partial knee replacement. Cornerstone was the first hospital in South Texas to offer the technology. The hospital has performed the most Navio surgical system-assisted partial knee replacement procedures in the world. This minimally invasive treatment option is for adults living with early to mid-stage osteoarthritis and is an advancement in the way orthopedic surgeons can perform partial knee replacement. THIE Earns Strong Financial Rating – Again

A.M. Best Company has recognized the Texas Hospital Insurance Exchange’s strong performance with another favorable rating. The company awarded THIE a B+ Stable rating in October, stating that “the ratings of Texas Hospital Insurance Exchange are based upon its supportive balance sheet strength and historically favorable operating performance.” The rating firm noted that factors impacting a positive rating include continued long-term favorable underwriting and operating performance, consistent positive surplus generation, and maintenance of strong risk-adjusted capitalization.

Mark Your Calendar for the Spring Hot Topics Workshop

Hot Topics Workshops

Mark your calendars now for the spring Hot Topics Workshop, coming up March 2-3 at the Overton Hotel & Conference Center in Lubbock. As always, the workshop is offered at no cost to THIE subscribers and will feature a full day of educational sessions on the hottest issues in health care as well as plenty of networking time with peers, including a golf tournament on March 2. Keep an eye on the THIE website for more information in the coming months.

See You at the THA 2016 Annual Conference and Expo

Before you head out for the holidays, be sure to register for the Texas Hospital Association 2016 Annual Conference and Expo coming up Jan. 21-22 at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel. Here are just a few reasons you should attend:

  • You can earn up to 3 hours of ACHE Face-to-Face education credit. That’s twice the number available at last year’s conference.
  • There’s something for your entire leadership team. From using data for better outcomes to driving cash-rich patient volume, breakout session topics will appeal to a variety of staff.
  • The general sessions will educate and entertain. The political debate featuring Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson and MSNBC’s Eugene Robinson will keep you on your toes, while health care futurist Jeff Goldsmith, Ph.D., and researcher David Newman, M.D., will challenge your way of thinking.
  • You’ll make valuable connections and meet new business partners. The multiple networking opportunities and full exhibit hall will offer you opportunities to connect with people both personally and professionally.

Texas Hospital Insurance Exchange staff will be on hand to discuss ways THIE can support your hospital. For more information or to register, go to the THA website.
