At the Texas Hospital Insurance Exchange, insuring Texas hospitals is our specialty. But we aren’t about simply selling insurance policies. Our mission is to provide you with a full range of insurance services, products and expertise that help you minimize your risks and your costs. I am pleased to launch this e-newsletter as part of our efforts to add value to your relationship with THIE.
Through THIE News, the annual Hot Topics Workshop, the recently re-launched Risk Management e-newsletter and the upcoming redesign of the THIE Web site, the goal is to help keep Texas hospitals better informed and educated insurance consumers.
Please let us know how you like this inaugural issue, and what you would like to read about in future issues.

THIE Has New Home
In April, the THIE team packed up, cleaned out and moved out of the headquarters in northeast Austin that it had called home for more 17 years. With the long-term lease expiring, we took advantage of the favorable commercial office space market to secure a great deal on beautiful new space in the Arboretum area of northwest Austin. Our 6500-square-foot location includes board and conference rooms, file and copy work stations adjoining each pod of cubicles and views overlooking the Hill Country. We invite our customers to stop by when you are in Austin – we have the coffee brewing! Need directions? Mapquest us!
New Address: Texas Hospital Insurance Exchange
8310 N. Capital of Texas Highway
Building 1, Suite 250
Austin, TX 78731
Phone: 512/451-5775 or 1-800/792-0060
A New Online Home Also!
In conjunction with the physical move, THIE also moved its digital home. You now can find THIE on the Web at www.thie.com. To reach THIE staff by e-mail, use the employee’s FirstInitialLastName@thie.com (example: dsamples@thie.com).
Over the next few months, watch for changes underway at the new Web site. Plans include adding a resource section of materials on risk management and other insurance topics, and links to upcoming industry events.
Mark Your Calendar for Hot Topics Workshops
The popular THIE Hot Topics Workshops may be more popular than ever this year. That's because, for the first time ever, these free workshops are offering continuing nursing and Category II (non-ACHE) education credits for participants. Among the hot topics on the agenda are a legislative update, electronic medical records, employment issues and a session on legal trends.
You may choose from one of two dates and hotels – both offering room discounts should you wish to turn the trip into a weekend getaway! Mark your calendar and watch for more details soon:

Annual Subscriber Statements on the Way In late July, THIE will mail annual statements to all subscribers. These statements are provided to all of our subscribers and represent each subscriber’s share of THIE’s financial results as of Dec. 31, 2008. If you do not receive your statement by Aug. 15, please contact Tess Frazier, THIE vice president/chief financial officer.
You Spoke -- We Are Listening!
A sincere thanks to the many THIE customers who provided feedback on our recent Zoomerang survey. I was thrilled to see the positive response in so many areas. THIE ranked significantly better than the competition or above average in these areas:
- Customer service: 91 percent of respondents;
- Knowledgeable staff: 86 percent;
- Risk management services: 84 percent; and
- Accessibility of staff: 83 percent.
When asked what types of THIE services would be most valuable, more than 90 percent rated an e-newsletter on risk management important to them. Other services that garnered strong interest included:
- Web site with online resources: 95 percent;
- In-service staff education: 94 percent; and
- Workshops on current trends: 89 percent.
Your responses tell us THIE is on the right track in meeting your needs in many areas, and pointed out some new opportunities to serve you even better in the year ahead. To that end, watch your e-mail in coming months for more information on free, THIE-hosted in-service staff education opportunities!
